पन pan (hindi)

An affix which, added to substantives and adjectives, forms abstract substantives, denoting condition, state, time of life, occupation, &c., and corresponding to the English words which end in '-hood,' '-ship,' '-ness,' &c.

रूखा rūkhā ru:kha: (a) dry; rough; harsh, curt, blunt; unsympathetic, inconsiderate; without ghee, to which ghee has not been added (as रूखा खाना); dry as a chip, flavourless; uninteresting; ~पन dryness; roughness; curtness, bluntness; absence of sympathy, inconsiderateness; -सुखा plain and simple (esp. used for food); without ghee; dry; —जवाब देना to give a curt/blunt reply; —पड़ना to become curt; to get rough/dry/hard; रूखी हँसी a superficial laugh.
