शानदार śhāndār

P دار dār [fr. dāshtan; rt. Zend dar = S. धर्], act. part. n. Having, possessing, holding, keeping; possessor, keeper, lord, master (used in comp., e.g. āb-dār; ḥiṣṣe-dār, &c., qq.v.).

शान śāna sha:n (nf) magnificence, splendour, grandeur; pomp; a touchstone; whetting; ~ची boastful; a brag, braggadocio; ~दार magnificent; pompous, splendid, grand; -शौक़त pomp and show, grandeur and splendour; —चढ़ाना to whet, to give pointedness/intensity; —दिखाना to do the grand; —धरना to whet, to sharpen;—बघारना/मारना to give oneself airs, to ride the high horse; to boast, to brag; —बरसना to look grand or grandly impressive, to be a picture of grandeur; -बान grandeur, magnificence; pomp and show; —में, किसी की undermining the honour/prestige of (as उनकी शान में ऐसी बात नहीं कहनी चाहिए थी); —में फ़र्क आना one's honour/prestige to be undermined/jeopardised; —में बट्टा लगना a fair name to be tarnished.
