स्थिति — sthiti: inner state and spiritual stage in the murlis
Estimated reading time : 5 mn
The definitions and explanations are newly written editorial material, translated from the French draft. Examples reproduce Hindi sentences and the French and English translations verified in the corresponding published versions.
The word and its ordinary meaning
स्थिति — sthiti is a feminine Hindi noun of Sanskrit origin. Hindwi records remaining or continuing, as well as state, condition and situation. The word does not inherently express a positive evaluation: the condition described may be good or bad, happy or painful.
The Murli dictionary entry includes equivalents such as state, situation, position and stage; its displayed French equivalent is niveau. The quotations establish the spiritual scope of that choice.
Published translations of the word
French: niveau. English: stage. These equivalents are verified in the selected examples, including 6 September 2020, 26 September 2021 and 3 March 2024. They are preserved in the quotations, even where newly written French would more naturally use état intérieur.
Stage does not necessarily denote a chronological step: in these passages it may name a present quality of awareness. Similarly, French niveau does not automatically mean social rank, a role or the status obtained in a future birth. Context is decisive.
Proposed translations
Inner state / état intérieur is especially suitable for experiences of peace, happiness, disturbance or power. Spiritual stage / niveau spirituel suits an emphasis on development or attainment. State / état is more general. Stage / stade can suit an explicitly described progression, but should not impose a sequence of steps on a sentence simply describing current experience.
These are editorial proposals, not additional published equivalents claimed without attestation. Stability may express the quality sought, but should not automatically replace स्थिति: the texts can also describe a fluctuating state.
One central meaning, several perspectives
The examples mainly concern the quality of an inner state, viewed either as present experience or as a stage developed and maintained. Peace, constancy and liberation-in-life qualify that state rather than forming independent senses of the noun.
1. Inner state in relation to circumstances
The passage begins with ordinary life: circumstances affect the state experienced. The next sentences discuss happiness and sorrow, then contrast this dependent state with a spiritual state to be founded on knowledge and remembrance.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : जैसे लौकिक जीवन में कोई भी परिस्थिति प्रमाण स्थिति बनती है .
Français — publié : Dans la vie, dans ce monde, on crée son niveau en fonction de la situation.
English — published: In worldly life, your stage is created according to the situation.

2. A particular state: peace
स्थिति here denotes a peaceful state, while वातावरण denotes the atmosphere. The next sentence asks for peace amidst disturbance. The concern is an inner quality to maintain, not merely calm surroundings.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : शान्त वातावरण में शान्ति की स्थिति बनाना यह कोई बड़ी बात नहीं है .
Français — publié : Créer un niveau de paix dans une atmosphère paisible, ce n’est pas grand-chose.
English — published: It is not a big thing to create a peaceful stage in a peaceful atmosphere.

3. Stability sustained through remembrance
एकरस specifies constancy, with remembrance of the Father presented as its support. Stability is not supplied by स्थिति alone: it is explicitly added as a quality of the state. The French version uses both stable and constant.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : जहाँ एक बाप याद है , वहाँ एकरस स्थिति स्वतः सहज अनुभव होगी .
Français — publié : Quand tu te souviens du Père unique, tu fais facilement et automatiquement l’expérience d’un niveau stable et constant.
English — published: When you have remembrance of the one Father, you automatically and easily experience a constant and stable stage.

4. A spiritual stage sought: liberation-in-life
जीवनमुक्त specifies liberation-in-life. This is a spiritual attainment sought, not a position in a social ranking. It preserves the perspective of attainment without making every occurrence of स्थिति a final stage.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : बापदादा हर एक बच्चे को जीवनमुक्त स्थिति में सदा देखने चाहते हैं .
Français — publié : BapDada veut constamment voir chaque enfant dans son niveau jeewanmukt (libéré dans la vie).
English — published: BapDada constantly wants to see each and every child in his stage of liberation-in-life.

5. Different states as seats for yoga
The blessing compares different states to seats for yoga. Hi208 mentions self-respect, the angelic stage, a lighthouse and love. The plurality refers to experiences or positions of awareness rather than physical postures; it does not imply that all states are identical.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : वरदान : भिन्न-भिन्न स्थितियों के आसन पर एकाग्र हो बैठने वाले राजयोगी , स्वराज्य अधिकारी भव
Français — publié : Bénédiction: Puissiez-vous devenir des Raja Yogis et des souverains de vous-mêmes qui siègent sur le trône des différents niveaux grâce à la concentration (la stabilité).
English — published: Blessing: May you become a RajaYogi and a self-sovereign who sits on the seats of the various stages with concentration (stability).

Nuances: state, circumstances and maintaining a state
On 9 May 2021, hi11–hi21, स्थिति is explicitly distinguished from परिस्थिति. Here, the former is the inner state, while the latter denotes the circumstances to which one reacts. Mechanically rendering both as situation would erase the contrast. This contextual distinction does not eliminate the ordinary meaning of situation elsewhere.
On 6 September 2020, hi2–hi4 and hi18–hi20, one is asked to enter silence and remain peaceful even when the surroundings are not. This clarifies the relationship between experience, practice and maintaining a state. The state is not merely asserted; it is to be experienced under varied conditions.
On 26 September 2021, hi84–hi87, remembrance, awareness and a stable state are connected. स्थिति can therefore be read as the experienced state without being made synonymous with स्मृति, which is presented as awareness supporting that experience. These distinctions describe the passages rather than imposing a rigid terminology.
The passage of 3 March 2024 also addresses balance between service and one’s inner stage. Sentence alignment is shifted in parts of that page in French and English; this dossier selects an example with a verified correspondence rather than treating neighbouring rows as automatically aligned.
Sources and scope
Two relevance-ranked pages of the daily corpus were consulted, containing 40 excerpts. Five source pages were examined in French and English: 9 May 2021, 3 March 2024, 30 March 2022, 26 September 2021 and 6 September 2020. Reprints were not counted as independent evidence. Daily includes reprinted BapDada teachings; the separate avyakt and mamma corpora were not surveyed. Lexical ranking measures neither doctrinal importance nor the frequency of a sense. This sample is not exhaustive.
