Learning Hindi to better understand the Murli
Estimated reading time : 03 mn
I recommend the excellent website A Door Into Hindi which covers all the basics aspects witt vocabulary, grammar, audio and video.
It seems based on the excellent english books by Teach Yourself :
All books are free.
To this comes the difficulty of the numerous borrowings of words of Arabic or Sanskrit, Punjabi and Sindhi origin that a native Indian does not necessarily know. And this includes the grammatical words essential to the sentence construction.
HIndi-English Murli Glossary is essential to find the meaning of these words.
There is also an online search for this glossary:
There is also the more recent dictionary :
An additional difficulty is that Baba changes the meaning of words, he himself brings definitions into the murlis by saying the word x is the word y or the word x means y.
I try on this site to put most of the words with their definitions, which we find in the murlis. But there is still much to do.
For pronunciation, I recommend the site that teaches 50 different languages in its own language for free.
The lessons are of quality and progressive, without any grammar.
There is also the book that you can buy on Amazon, but of limited interest because you have to go to the site to listen to the expressions in Hindi and the text is also on the site.
It is also possible to download mp3s of the 100 courses.
It is also possible to install the corresponding application on iPhone or Android.
Finally, there is a 7 hour video on YouTube covering the entire course:
To go more deeply in the hindi grammar, I recommend the book :
- A Basic Grammar of Modern Hindi by Central Hindi Directorate (from Indian Government)
You can find the book in India for a few rupees.
Finally, I recommend the numerous hindiuniversity video courses made by a university professor in his free time.
These courses are very progressive and immersive, allowing you to integrate grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation naturally.
They cover all levels from beginner to advanced.
I recommend to start with the Hindi speaking 101 playlist which contains 40 videos.
You can also listen to the murli in Hindi on the official website: madhubanmurli.org and follow the transcription in our alphabet on this site by changing the date of the murli that interests you.
Good luck !
The good news is that Baba expresses the same ideas with Sanskrit at one time, Hindi, Arabic or English at other times. No doubt so that everyone can have the information in one way or another, and at the same time it validates the interpretation of certain words by cross-checking the different languages.
In short, when it comes to listening to the Murli, we really have to be little children who don't understand everything right away, but who don't get discouraged and finally learn the language after many years.
