How to read the transliteration

This site uses transliteration based on ISO 15919, with a few adaptations to make reading easier: h is added after c, ś and ṣ, and i after the vowel r̥. These adaptations bring it closer to the Hunterian system used in India while retaining the distinctive marks of ISO 15919.

Usual translation

  1. Vallabhachari

Origin of the definition

वल्लभाचारी. Vallabhacharis (A sect, followers of Sri Vallabhacharya). Vallabhacharya was a revered figure who had a deep command over the Vedas and Upanishads. He was known by the titles Vallabha and Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya. He founded the philosophy of Shuddha Advaita or pure non-dualism. He also founded the Pushti sect (Pushtimarg) of Vaishnavism, a Krishna-centric cult in the Braj region of India. Its principles are rooted from, and its devotional practises are centred on, the fabled amorous plays of young Krishna, such as those described in the Bhagavata Purana and those associated with Govardhana Hill. He was born in the year 1479 AD in Varanasi to a Telugu Brahmin family.
