योग — yog: connection, remembrance and spiritual life in the murlis
Estimated reading time : 5 mn
The definitions and explanations are newly written editorial material, translated from the French draft. Examples preserve Hindi sentences and the French and English translations verified in the published versions.
The word and its cultural context
योग — yog, shown as yōg in the site’s transliteration, is a masculine Hindi noun of Sanskrit origin. Hindwi gives union, contact or relationship, and meditation. The Murli dictionary entry also records combination and sum. These lexical meanings do not make every occurrence a spiritual practice.
In the Indian context, yoga denotes varied disciplines of concentration and spiritual practice. It cannot be reduced to one universal aim shared by all traditions. For the BK entry, quotations must specify the connection sought, with whom, and through which practice.
Published translations of the word
French: yoga. English: yoga. All five examples retain the noun. In this dossier, link and connection explain the meaning rather than constituting verified published equivalents in the selected passages. The relationship between yoga and remembrance is established by what the sentences say, not by automatically replacing yoga in translation.
Raja Yoga, spiritual yoga and the fire of yoga are qualified expressions. They require contextual explanation rather than being treated as interchangeable equivalents of the noun alone.
Proposed translations
Yoga remains the preferred choice. Connection / lien explains relational uses. Connection through remembrance / connexion dans le souvenir expresses the central BK articulation. Spiritual connection / lien spirituel can suit a context that has already identified the Father. Union is a possible ordinary equivalent but can suggest merging: the selected passages describe a relationship without establishing the disappearance of the soul’s identity.
Meditation can name a session, but becomes too narrow when the text concerns ordinary connections or a yogi life. Translation should preserve the distinction between the object of connection, the practice of remembrance and its integration into conduct.
Two connected uses and their applications
A broad use concerns the connection of attention with someone; the central spiritual use is directed towards the incorporeal Father through remembrance. Purification and a yogi life are effects or developments attributed to this practice rather than independent senses to multiply artificially.
1. A connection of attention or remembrance
Yoga is used broadly here for the connection created by remembering someone. The context also discusses what attention turns towards. This does not assign every connection the same spiritual value as remembrance of the Father.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : यूँ तो किसको भी याद करो तो वह भी योग हुआ .
Français — publié : En fait, se souvenir de quelqu'un, c'est cela le yoga.
English — published: In fact, when you remember anyone, that is yoga.

2. Relationship with the incorporeal Father
The passage distinguishes a relationship with the incorporeal One from relationships between human beings. This distinction belongs to the murli’s teaching rather than a general history of all yoga traditions.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : लेकिन अभी हम निराकार के साथ योग लगाते हैं .
Français — publié : Nous sommes maintenant en yoga avec l'Incorporel.
English — published: However, we are now having yoga with the incorporeal One.

3. Yoga explained through remembrance of the Father
The sentence explains the yoga taught here through the instruction to remember the Father, directly connecting it with याद. The same passage encourages remembrance during movement and activity rather than dependence solely on a place or organised session.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : तुमको ईश्वर ने योग सिखाया है कि मुझ बाप को याद करो .
Français — publié : Dieu vous a enseigné le yoga: Souvenez-vous de Moi, votre Père.
English — published: God has taught you yoga: Remember Me, your Father!
Murli · daily · 2022-04-21 · hi47 · FR · EN
4. Spiritual function: purification
The Father is named through the title Ocean of Purity. Purification is an effect attributed to this relationship. It is presented as spiritual teaching rather than a scientific property demonstrated by the word yoga.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : पवित्रता के सागर के साथ हम योग लगाने से पवित्र बनते हैं .
Français — publié : Nous devenons purs en ayant du yoga avec l'Océan de Pureté.
English — published: By having yoga with the Ocean of Purity we become pure.

5. From sessions to a yogi life
The text contrasts trying to have yoga with leading a yogi life. Hi33–hi45 connect that life with nature, words and actions. This distinction does not abolish sessions, but refuses to reduce yoga to their duration.
हिंदी — मूल / Hindi — original : योग लगाने वाले हैं लेकिन योगी जीवन वाले नहीं हैं .
Français — publié : Elles essaient d’avoir du yoga, mais ne mènent pas une vie de yogi.
English — published: They are those who try to have yoga, but they do not have a yogi life.

A variation in scope to preserve
The Mateshwari supplement of 1 September 2021, hi194–hi196 defines yoga through remembrance of God and reserves the term for that remembrance. Yet 5 October 2023, hi75–hi76 also uses yoga for connections with relatives before asking for redirection towards the Father. The broad use quoted above occurs on 21 April 2022. This difference should be retained: some passages prescribe the spiritual sense sought, while others explain it through ordinary connection.
French and English sentence alignment is shifted in the supplement of 1 September; the definition is found in neighbouring translated sentences. This dossier does not treat the rows opposite the Hindi as automatically correct correspondences.
Yoga, remembrance and practical life
The connection with याद is central in this sample, but the words are not mechanical substitutions. याद often foregrounds remembering, while योग may name the connection, its practice or the orientation of life resulting from it. These are reading perspectives rather than an absolute terminological boundary.
On 23 October 2022, hi31–hi45 and hi74–hi77, knowledge and yoga are to become natural in conduct. 13 December 2023, hi55–hi59 places yoga within a teaching of purification. Criticisms of other yogas in these passages remain attributed to the murli rather than becoming a cultural definition of every non-BK practice.
Sources and scope
Two relevance-ranked pages of the daily corpus were consulted, containing 40 excerpts. Six source pages were examined in French and English: 1 September 2021, 5 October 2023, 15 January 2024, 23 October 2022, 21 April 2022 and 13 December 2023. The Mateshwari text is a supplement published in daily rather than a result from a separate mamma search. Reprints were not counted as independent evidence. The separate avyakt and mamma corpora were not surveyed. Lexical relevance measures neither doctrinal importance nor the frequency of a sense. This selection is not exhaustive.
