198This is what people say, but that One says: Children, the place where there is true happiness and peace, which is far away from sorrow and peacelessness, cannot be called a world. 199When people want happiness, that has to be in this world.

200That was the golden-aged world of deities where they always had a life of total happiness. 201Those deities were said to be immortal. 202“Immortal” also has no meaning. 203It doesn’t mean that the deities had such long lifespan that they never died.

204Their saying this is wrong because it is not like that. 205Their lifespan was not as long as the golden and silver ages, for the deities had many births in the golden and silver ages. 206They ruled the kingdom very well for 21 births and then they took 63 births from the copper age to the end of the iron age. 207In all, they had 21 births in the stage of ascent and 63 births in the descending stage.

214Human beings cannot take birth as animals and animals cannot take birth as human beings.

215Human beings have to experience everything in their human lives, and so there is the feeling of happiness or sorrow.

218Human beings feel their suffering (of the animals) because human beings are intelligent, but it isn’t that human beings take birth in 8.4 million species. 219A tree is said to be non-sentient and it has its own species.

202जड़ झाड़ भी योनी लेते हैं , यह तो सहज और विवेक की बात है कि जड़ झाड़ ने क्या कर्म अकर्म किया है जो उन्हों का हिसाब-किताब बनेगा , जैसे देखो गुरुनानक साहब ने ऐसे महावाक्य उच्चारण किये हैं - अन्तकाल में जो पुत्र सिमरे ऐसी चिंता में जो मरे सुअर की योनी में वल वल उतरे . . परन्तु इस कहने का मतलब यह नहीं है कि मनुष्य कोई सूकर की योनि लेता है परन्तु सूकर का मतलब यह है कि मनुष्यों का कार्य भी ऐसा होता है जैसे जानवरों का कार्य होता है . jaṛ jhāṛ bhī yōnī lētē haĩ , yah tō sahaj aur vivēk key|kī bāt hai ki jaṛ jhāṛ nē kyā karma akarma kiyā hai jō unhō̃ kā hisāb-kitāb banēgā , jaisē dēkhō gurunānak sāhab nē aisē mahāvākya uchchāraṇ kiyē haĩ - antkāl mē̃ jō putra simarē aisī chintā mē̃ jō marē suar key|kī yōnī mē̃ val val utarē . . parantu is kahnē kā matlab yah nahī̃ hai ki manuṣhya kōī sūkar key|kī yōni lētā hai parantu sūkar kā matlab yah hai ki manuṣhyō̃ kā kārya bhī aisā hōtā hai jaisē jānvarō̃ kā kārya hōtā hai . jaṛ[n.f.;sg.]|jaṛ[adj.]|jaṛnā[root] jhāṛ[n.m.;sg.,d.] bhī[p.] yōni[n.f.ī=>ī;sg.] lēnā[pres.pl.m.12hon3] , yah[pn.sg.d.] tō sahaj[adj.] aur vivēk[n.m.;sg.,d.] key|karnā[past-part.f.]|kā[postp.ā=>ī;f.] bāt[n.f.;sg.] hōnā[pres.sg.23] ki[conj.] jaṛ[n.f.;sg.]|jaṛ[adj.]|jaṛnā[root] jhāṛ[n.m.;sg.,d.] nē[postp.] kyā karm[n.m.;sg.,d.] akarm[n.m.;sg.,d.] karnā[pres-perf.sg.m.23] jō[pn.;d.] vah[pn.pl.o.] kā[postp.ā=>ā;m.sg.d.] hisāb-kitāb[n.f.;sg.] bannā[fut.m.sg.23] , jaisā[adj.ā=>ē;m.o.,m.pl.] dēkhnā[opt.pl.2,imp.pl.2] gurūnānak[n.m.;sg.,d.] sāhēb nē[postp.] aisā[adj.ā=>ē;m.o.,m.pl.] mahāvākya[n.m.;sg.,d.] uchchāraṇ[n.m.;sg.,d.] karnā[pres-perf.pl.m.12hon3] - antkāl[n.m.;sg.,d.] mē̃[postp.] jō[pn.;d.] putra[n.m.;sg.,d.] simarnā[past-part.m.pl.,o.]|simarnā[opt.sg.23] aisā[adj.ā=>ī;f.] chintā[n.f.;sg.] mē̃[postp.] jō[pn.;d.] marnā[past-part.m.pl.,o.]|marnā[opt.sg.23] suar[n.m.;sg.,d.] key|karnā[past-part.f.]|kā[postp.ā=>ī;f.] yōni[n.f.ī=>ī;sg.] mē̃[postp.] val val[x] utarnā[opt.sg.23]|utarnā[past-part.m.pl.,o.] . . parantu[conj.] yah[pn.sg.o.] kahnā[inf.m.pl.,o.] kā[postp.ā=>ā;m.sg.d.] matlab[n.m.;sg.,d.] yah[pn.sg.d.] nahī̃[neg] hōnā[pres.sg.23] ki[conj.] manuṣhya[n.m.;sg.,d.] kōī[pn.;d.] sūkar[n.m.;sg.,d.] key|karnā[past-part.f.]|kā[postp.ā=>ī;f.] yōni[n.f.ī=>ī;sg.] lēnā[pres.sg.m.23] parantu[conj.] sūkar[n.m.;sg.,d.] kā[postp.ā=>ā;m.sg.d.] matlab[n.m.;sg.,d.] yah[pn.sg.d.] hōnā[pres.sg.23] ki[conj.] manuṣhya[n.m.+ō̃;pl.o.] kā[postp.ā=>ā;m.sg.d.] kārya[n.m.;sg.,d.] bhī[p.] aisā[adj.ā=>ā;m.sg.d.] hōnā[pres.sg.m.23] jaisā[adj.ā=>ē;m.o.,m.pl.] jānvar[n.m.+ō̃;pl.o.] kā[postp.ā=>ā;m.sg.d.] kārya[n.m.;sg.,d.] hōnā[pres.sg.m.23] . 220This is easy and it is a matter of common sense to understand what actions or neutral actions a non-sentient tree would have performed for it to create karmic accounts. 221For instance, look at the elevated versions that Guru Nanak quoted: Whoever remembers their son, whoever dies with that worry in their final moments would take rebirth as a boar. 222However, saying this does not mean that a human being would take birth as a boar, but a boar means that the actions of human beings are like those of animals; it isn’t that human beings become animals.
